NORMAL, Ill. -
Former Illinois State long snapper Jake Weber has accepted invitations to two NFL mini-camps over the next two weeks. Weber will participate at the Miami Dolphins camp this weekend, from May 4-6, and will workout with the Kansas City Chiefs during May 11-13.
"It's exciting," Weber said. "I'm going to go into both camps with a hard-working approach and hopefully something will work out for me. This is a new thing for me, so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm just going to work hard and give it everything I got."
The native of Dunlap, Ill., was a four-year letterwinner for the Redbirds and represented ISU at the 2007 Hula Bowl.
Weber is attempting to become the first Redbird long snapper in the NFL since Mark Rodenhauser, who had a 13-year career with the Chicago Bears (1987-88, 1992), Minnesota Vikings (1989), San Diego Chargers (1990-91), Detroit Lions (1993-94), Carolina Panthers (1995-98) and Seattle Seahawks (1999).
Currently, the Redbirds have five players on NFL rosters, including Aveion Cason (Detroit Lions), Boomer Grigsby (Kansas City Chiefs), Brent Hawkins (Jacksonville Jaguars), Laurént Robinson (Atlanta Falcons) and Cameron Siskowic (Cincinnati Bengals).
