NORMAL, Ill. -
For the second year in a row, Illinois State alumni, coaches, staff, Redbird Club members and friends will have an opportunity to get together and play some golf in the Chicago area, as registration has opened for the 2007 Windy City Golf Classic. The tournament, which is sponsored by the Redbird Club, will be held on Wednesday, June 27, at the Bartlett Hills Golf Club in Bartlett, Ill.
Illinois State Assistant Athletics Director Doug Banks is excited about the opportunity to once again reconnect with ISU's Chicagoland alumni.
"We are excited to go back to the Bartlett Hills Golf Club for our 2007 Windy City Redbird Golf Classic," said Banks. "Last year's event was fun and reunited a lot of Redbirds in the area. This annual event is great opportunity for us to reconnect with the Chicago area Redbirds and help raise money for our student-athlete scholarships. We will have a good representation of ISU coaches and athletics administrators in attendance as well, so it should be a great event for everyone involved."
The "Classic" kicks off at 11:00 a.m. with registration and all players will be supplied with a box lunch. Play will start at noon with a shotgun start in a four-person scramble format. Following the day's action, all participants will be treated to a dinner buffet and a live auction, where they will have the opportunity to meet ISU coaches and administrators.
Cost to play is $150 per player, which includes golf, cart fees, range balls, lunch, dinner, and a gift. However, the tournament is limited to the first 120 entrants. Prizes will also be given out to the teams who place in the tournament and skill competitions will also be held, including closest to the pin, long drive, short drive, long putt and a hole-in-one contest. Other sponsorships are also available for the event.
Proceeds from the event will benefit student-athletes attending Illinois State. Fundraising plays an important role in maintaining the university's broad-based athletics program. Revenue generated through fundraising events like the Windy City Golf Classic primarily covers the cost of scholarships and grants-in-aid for student-athletes including tuition and fees, books, and housing.
