NORMAL, Ill. -
After losing the top two receivers from a year ago, Illinois State head football coach Denver Johnson has re-solidified the position with three football bowl subdivision (FBS) wideouts, including Illinois transfer Bryant Creamer, who was added to the team on Wednesday.
Creamer joins Kelvin Chandler (Pittsburgh) and Ro Grigsby (Kansas State) as the former FBS receivers on the ISU roster. At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Creamer will have two years remaining with the Redbirds. With the Illini in 2006, Creamer played in three games, but did not record a statistic. The year before, he played in five games after sitting out as a redshirt in 2004.
"Bryant is a big, fairly-polished receiver," Johnson said. "He was very highly thought of coming out of high school. We think that he is a guy that can step in, adapt and contribute to our receiving corps."
The Chicago native was named a national Top-100 recruit by the Chicago Sun-Times coming out of Simeon High School. He was named first team all-state as a senior by the Chicago Sun-Times and Champaign News-Gazette after catching 63 passes, including 23 for touchdowns. The Public League Most Valuable Player was also a PrepStar All-American and a SuperPrep All-Region selection.
Creamer becomes the third wide receiver to transfer to Illinois State after beginning his career at Illinois, joining Marques Mosely and Dwayne Smith.
