FRANKFURT, Germany -
Sha-Ron Edwards, a former Illinois State running back, ended the third quarter with a touchdown run and closed Frankfurt's deficit to two-points, but the Galaxy was held scoreless in the fourth quarter and Hamburg added an insurance touchdown to post a 37-28 win in the Yello Strom World Bowl XV at Commerzback Arena.
The Sea Devils jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed en route to their first NFL Europa championship. Edwards finished the game with 17 yards rushing on seven carries, but he was also the Galaxy's leading receiver with seven catches for 79 yards.
With the Galaxy trailing 30-21, Edwards capped off an 8-play, 46-yard scoring drive with a 2-yard touchdown run off left tackle. Four minutes later, the Sea Devils countered with their fifth touchdown to secure the win.
Edwards was a 2003 All-Gateway First Team selection for the Redbirds and still owns the third best single-season rushing total in Illinois State history. He legged 1,409 yards on 247 carries with 14 touchdowns during the 2003 campaign. During the year, Edwards compiled a pair of 200-yard rushing games against Missouri State (239) and Western Kentucky (233).
