Illinois State University Athletics

Red Alert Membership up Nearly 50 Percent From 2006-07

June 26, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Two short months ago, Illinois State's promotional efforts were recognized when the athletics department accepted the "Best Sports Marketing Campaign Award" by the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Marketing Association for the "Spread the Red" campaign. Just nine weeks later, the ISU marketing staff learned of the success of another growing campaign, and one that is more beneficial to its student body. The 2007 "Red Alert" campaign is off to record success, receiving new memberships at nearly a 50 percent increase from last year.

As of Tuesday, there were 1,397 Red Alert members for the 2007-08 calendar year, which is 645 more members than exactly one year ago. The organization has received elevated support from iCampus sales, receiving 375 memberships to date from the new registration procedure.

"We're very excited about how many passes are in students' hands right now," said Director of Marketing Brad Ledford. "It's still June, and we are already halfway to the same amount of passes as last year. Student attendance is a crucial part of game atmosphere, and we are focused in involving as many students as possible. These numbers show that students are just as excited about the upcoming sports seasons as we are."

The Red Alert pass replaced the "All-Sport Ticket" last June. The organization is aimed at increasing school spirit and providing a "home-field" or "home-court" advantage for Redbird teams. The year-long pass guarantees student admission to all regular season athletic events. Cost is $40, and can be billed to a students' university account.

The pass includes priority-seating privileges for football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball games.
