Rubin Named First-Team All-American by Jewish Sports Review

July 20, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State incoming freshman men's basketball player Alex Rubin was named to the first-team high school all-America basketball squad by the Jewish Sports Review. The publication released both a first-team and an honorable mention squad.

Rubin, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard, led Armstrong High School (Minneapolis) to a 19-10 overall record last season, before falling in the sectional finals. A standout from his freshman season on, Rubin amassed 21 points-per-game (more than 1,200 for his career), controlled 5.7 rebounds-per-game and distributed 5.0 assists-per-contest. As a senior, he was named to the All-Classic Lake Conference first-team and was an honorable mention all-state selection. He was also a finalist for Minnesota's "Mr. Basketball."

As a junior, Rubin averaged 14.5 points and 4.8 assists-per-game, en route to being named to the all-metro defensive second-team, and landing a spot on the honorable mention all-state squad.

Rubin signed at Illinois State last November after verbally committing nearly a year prior to national signing day. He is already living on campus, and participating in summer pick-up games and workouts with his teammates.
