WINNIPEG, Canada -
Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn continued his torrid passing, as he threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns on 21-for-27 passing, including a span of 12 straight completions, to lift Winnipeg to a 36-18 victory over Hamilton in Canadian Football League action at Canad Inns Stadium on Friday night.
The Bombers (3-1-1) jumped out to the early 7-0 lead when Glenn flipped the ball to Milt Stegall on a reverse from the 1-yard line. The touchdown was the 138th in Stegall's career, which is the CFL standard, and it ended a 6-play, 75-yard touchdown drive.
Hamilton took its first lead at 15-14, with 7:35 left in the third quarter. The two teams traded field goals and Hamilton regained the lead 18-17, with its sixth field goal at the 10:26 mark in the fourth quarter.
On the game-winning drive, Glenn completed five straight passes, including a 39-yard strike to Derick Armstrong, which set up the 1-yard touchdown run by Charles Roberts. Glenn connected with Jaime Stoddard on the 2-point conversion and Winnipeg claimed a 25-18 lead with 7:37 remaining. Following a single point and an insurance field goal, Glenn blew the game wide open with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Stegall with 1:38 on the clock.
Winnipeg will face the Tiger-Cats in back-to-back games, this time at Hamilton on Aug. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
NOTE: Sam Young, one of Glenn's former Illinois State teammates, joined the Bombers on July 15. Winnipeg is the fourth CFL team Young has played for in his five-year professional career. He did not record a stat against Hamilton.
