Head men's basketball coach Tim Jankovich announced Illinois State's 2007-08 non-conference schedule Tuesday, a slate that features eight home games, including a marquee match-up against Cincinnati on Dec. 8. The Redbirds will also play Indiana at the Sears Centre Friday, Nov. 23 in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.
"We are relieved to have finally completed our non-conference schedule for this year," said Jankovich. "Obviously, the majority of it had been done long before we came here, but filling in the last couple of pieces has taken an amazing amount of time. Several coaches in our league warned me about this part of the job when I first got here. We are excited about our season and have a number of very challenging nights ahead of us."
The schedule includes two home games against Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 14) and UNC-Wilmington (Nov. 18) in the Chicago Invitational Challenge. The Redbirds will face the Hoosiers in the third round at the Sears Centre, and will wrap-up the tournament against either Xavier or Kent State (Nov. 24), depending on their third round fate.
The slate also includes three road games in 18 days against Mid-American Conference foes.
The Bearcats will be making their first-ever trip to Normal, Ill., having topped the Redbirds in Cincinnati in both the 1995-96 and 2005-06 campaigns.
In the middle of the Missouri Valley Conference slate (Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008), Illinois State will host a non-conference foe in the 2008 ESPN BracketBusters game. Last year's opponent (Ball State) was announced on Jan. 30, 2007.
The complete 2007-08 Valley schedule will be released later this summer.
