Anetsberger Named to New York-Penn League All-Star Team

Aug. 11, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Former Illinois State baseball standout Ryan Anetsberger has already garnered recognition in his first season as a professional baseball player, as the Wheaton, Ill., native was named to the New York-Penn League All-Star roster earlier this week.

Anetsberger will represent the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jammers in the NYPL All-Star Game, which will be held August 14 at Dutchess County Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y.

As the everyday third baseman, Anetsberger has been one of the most consistent hitters in the Jammers' lineup. The 2007 15th round selection of the Jammers' parent club, the Florida Marlins, is batting .272 and leads the team in total bases (72), runs scored (25), triples (3) and is tied for the team lead in hits (41) and home runs with six.

The Jammers will send four of its players to the festivities, as catcher Toree Langley, shortstop Carlos Piste and pitcher Garrett Parcell will join Anetsberger on the team. It marks the second-straight year that the club has sent four representatives to the league's all-star game. The game pits the top prospects from the league's American League affiliates against their National League counterparts.

Anetsberger was a key part to the middle of the Redbirds' lineup during his three seasons at Illinois State, starting all 153 games he played in and hitting .328 with eight home runs, 196 hits and 87 RBI. In 2007, Anetsberger split time between third base, the outfield and designated hitter after suffering a broken nose against Northern Iowa on April 6. However, he was able to overcome the injury and led the team in batting with a .328 average with a career-high five home runs and 30 RBI.
