NORMAL, Ill. -
The NFL dream of former Illinois State linebacker Cameron Siskowic isn't over. The 2006 Gateway Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday morning.
After the 2007 NFL Draft, Siskowic originally signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, but was waived on Aug. 2. After Minnesota placed linebacker Jason Glenn on injured reserve, the Vikings immediately signed Siskowic and another linebacker, George Hall. Minnesota finished the 2006 season with a 6-10 record, and a defense that ranked No. 22 in the league with 323 yards allowed per game.
Siskowic led the Gateway in tackles the last two seasons. He was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, the top defensive player honor in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), in 2005 and 2006. A consensus all-American in 2006, Siskowic was also named the Defensive Most Valuable Player in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Classic.
Siskowic rejoins Aveion Cason (Detroit Lions), Sha-Ron Edwards (Atlanta Falcons), Boomer Grigsby (Kansas City Chiefs), Brent Hawkins (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Laurént Robinson (Atlanta Falcons) as former Redbirds currently in the NFL.
