NORMAL, Ill. -
Due to record-setting student attendance numbers at Hancock Stadium during the 2006 football season, "Red Alert" members wishing to sit in the "Zoo" will need to reserve their respective seats to home games earlier than in the past. On the week of the home game, the Illinois State department of athletics will organize a Monday morning pick-up policy for Red Alert members. Assuming the tickets to the Zoo, which are free to Red Alert members only, are still available, the pick-up period will run through noon Wednesday during each home game week.
The Monday morning pick-up will take place at the Redbird Ticket Office, adjacent to the North Entrance of Redbird Arena, beginning at 9 a.m. Red Alert members must be present to claim their ticket to the game.
Zoo tickets are in the south end zone; but in the event that the 2,500 seats sell out, Red Alert members will have the opportunity to sit in section "L," a general admission section that serves as a student section overflow area. The Zoo is reserved for Red Alert members and Illinois State students only.
"This policy represents a good problem for those involved with Illinois State athletics," said associate athletics director/external affairs Aaron Leetch. "Due to the record attendance numbers that were set for several of our football games last year, we saw a need to implement a policy that gave our Red Alert members a fair chance at sitting in the Zoo, which is a very coveted seating section at Hancock Stadium. Our general student body will also benefit from this new policy."
If Red Alert members want to attend the game, but not sit in the Zoo, they need to specify that they would prefer a general admission ticket at the organized pick-up event.
The Red Alert pass replaced the "All-Sport Ticket" in June 2006. The organization is aimed at increasing school spirit and providing a "home-field" or "home-court" advantage for Redbird teams. The year-long pass guarantees student admission to all regular-season athletic events. Cost is $40, and can be billed to a students' university account.
The pass includes priority-seating privileges for football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball games.
