New Tennis Facility Photo Gallery
NORMAL, ILL. -
Construction began on a new tennis facility that will be the home of both the Illinois State men's and women's tennis teams.
The new facility will be located off of Gregory Street, west of the Illinois State University golf course. The facility will feature 12 outdoor courts.
Fans can monitor the progress of the construction at GoRedbirds.com on the both the men's and women's tennis pages by clicking on the "New Tennis Court Photo Gallery" link on the right sidebar.
The head coaches for both the men's and women's tennis programs are excited about what the new facility will bring to their programs.
"I think the new facilities are fantastic. We have been successful regardless of our facilities and hopefully we will be able to continue that success on the new courts," said women's head tennis coach Chris Hoover. "We have been very fortunate to be one of the first facilities addressed on the Redbird Renaissance. (Illinois State Athletics Director) Dr. Sheahon Zenger and (University President) Dr. Bowman have been great in getting all of this into action."
"We are very excited about the project," new men's head tennis coach Cris James said. "The new facilities will be a boost to our tennis programs, and will be a large improvement over the old McCormick Courts. With the new facility we will be able to host some events, which we have not done in a while, and that will be a big plus for both programs."
The new courts are part of The Redbird Renaissance project, which is working to rebuild the current Redbird facilities. Hancock Stadium, Redbird Arena as well as the softball and baseball stadiums are also scheduled for upgrades as part of the project in the coming years.
