HAMILTON, Canada -
Kevin Glenn, a former quarterback at Illinois State, passed for 297 yards and two touchdowns, but three Winnipeg fumbles proved costly as the Blue Bombers dropped a 43-22 decision to Hamilton in Canadian Football action Friday night at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The victory was Hamilton's first of the season.
Again, Glenn was consistent in the pocket, completing 26-of-33 passes, but even his efficient passing couldn't overcome the Bomber turnovers. The loss dropped Winnipeg to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Ticats improved to 1-5. The Bombers still remain in first place in the East Division.
Glenn took the Bombers 63 yards in six plays on the game's opening drive to take a 7-0 lead. He found Milt Stegall on a 33-yard touchdown pass to take the early lead. Following a game-tying Hamilton touchdown, Winnipeg scored a single to hold an 8-7 lead in the first quarter. The Tiger-Cats scored 15 unanswered points and held a 22-8 lead in the third quarter.
Glenn again got the Bombers close with a six-play, 75-yard scoring drive. He completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Derick Armstrong and closed the gap to 22-15, with eight minutes left in the third quarter. But, Hamilton took control of the game from that point with three more touchdowns, including a 65-yard fumble return.
Winnipeg will travel to face the BC Lions for an Aug. 10 contest which kicks-off at 9:30 p.m. CT.
