Head Coach Steve Loney:
How does this win feel?
"This was a great win for these kids. They've worked for a long time. They've been very coachable and have accepted the new coaching staff. It's a wonderful win and I'm glad I could be a part of it."
Did you ever think this could happen to you?
"The way I think about things, is if the good Lord wants you to do it, he will bless that. I believe there's a reason I'm at Drake."
Was this your first Gatorade bath?
"This was my first Gatorade bath. Once in the NFL, one of the guys threw a cup of water on me."
Cale Hunt, LB:
How did the team accomplish this win?
"We never doubted each other. We believed in each other and got the job done. I trust the guys playing next to me every single down, and even if we make mistakes we are going to pick each other up."
Augustine Agyei, WR:
How did it feel catching the winning pass?
"I was ecstatic. I was running and screaming. That was my first catch all game, so I was excited."
How do you think the team was able to pull off the win?
"We all played so hard. This off-season was really intense. We had the belief we could do it and we all came together."
Cole Ingle, QB:
What does this win mean for Drake?
"That's the biggest win in Drake history I think."
Talk about that last drive of the game.
"We shot our selves in the foot a couple of times, but we knew they weren't really stopping us a lot on defense. We were just stopping our selves. We finally had to step up and we had two big drives in the fourth quarter. It was third and long and I dumped one off on a blitz to the running back and he got a first down and we just went from there."
How did you feel after throwing that last pass?
"I just threw my hands up and ran off the field looking for anybody I could hug. I haven't stopped shaking since."
Head Coach Denver Johnson:
Opening Statement
"We played pretty good defense in the first half. Drake has a good football team. They are well coached and they have good players. They outplayed us and they beat us fair-and-square. It is my fault; we were out coached. I was proud of our team. We were battling back but we were just not able to finish the game. It was a disappointing night. They made plays when the opportunities arose. I have to tip my hat to (Drake head coach) Steve (Loney) and his coaching staff. They came in here and beat fair-and-square"
Drakes game plan
"They were determined not to let us run the ball and the times we did run the ball, we ran effectively. When they took the run away from us, we couldn't execute the pass effectively."
Redbird Offense
"With a new crew of receivers there were some kinks that we thought we had worked out, but they manifested themselves tonight."
About the Atmosphere
"I felt like we were a favorite to win. We had a great home crowd and a great student section and you can't ask for more than that in a season opener.
What will this loss do
"We are going to watch game film to see if we were on track with our capabilities. Until we watch the film we won't be able to be certain if we are on the right track."
Kye Stewart, LB:
Did you take Drake lightly?
"I feel that we didn't take them lightly. We knew the type of team that they had and if we did not do what we were supposed to do a loss would happen."
About the atmosphere of the crowd
"I'd to thank the crowd. They were behind us 110% and whatever we win, they deserve. I am sorry that we could not deliver for our fans."
Rafael Rice, RB:
About the offense
"At the end of the day we didn't do enough to win the game. I tip my hat off to them, they played an excellent game and in the end they wanted it more than we did. If we would have gone at them harder, the game would not have ended the way it did; but when you let off of a team like Drake, they come back."
