NORMAL, Ill. - After helping the Redbirds to three-consecutive sweeps over non-conference foes last week, Illinois State outside hitter Mallory Leggett garnered Freshman of the Week honors by the Missouri Valley Conference, the league office announced Monday. It is Leggett's first career weekly accolade and the first for a Redbird player this season.

On the week, Leggett had 23 kills, four service aces, 34 digs, seven blocks and 31.0 points scored.

Leggett has started all 10 matches for the Redbirds on the outside this season. She has recorded five double-digit kill efforts, including a season-best 15 kills to go along with a season-high 22 digs in ISU's win over UAB at the `Bama Bash Aug. 31. Leggett has also contributed five double-digit dig outings. At the `Bama Bash, she led the team in points scored.
