NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State's 43-17 victory over Murray State was enough to sway the head coaches in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches Poll, but the win didn't alter the opinion of The Sports Network voters as both top-25 polls were released Monday.
The Redbirds climbed three spots to No. 15 in the FCS Coaches Poll, while remained ranked No. 17 in The Sports Network poll. Including pre and postseason polls, the Redbirds have not been ranked in the top-25 for 20-straight weeks.
Including ISU, the Gateway Football Conference has five of its seven members ranked in both polls. Northern Iowa, Youngstown State and Southern Illinois are each ranked in the top-10 by both the FCS Coaches and The Sports Network polls.
ISU will face its first ranked opponent Saturday, when the Redbirds travel to Eastern Illinois for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Panthers are ranked No. 17 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 14 by The Sports Network.
