NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State diver, senior Katie Janonis, has been named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season. After receiving the award four times in a row earlier this season (Oct. 24, Nov. 1, Nov. 7, and Nov. 14) and twice last season (Dec. 6 and Jan. 10), Janonis is the first diver in ISU history to receive the award seven times.
Janonis received the award after placing third on both the 1- and 3-meter boards at the Redbird's home finale, Jan. 26 against Green Bay. She finished with a score of 234.29 on the 1-meter board and a tally of 224.40 on the 3-meter board. Janonis currently leads the Valley on the 1-meter board and is second on the 3-meter board.
ISU head diving coach Phil Hoffmann was pleased that Janonis was once again a recipient of the award.
"Receiving the award once again is a culmination of a good senior year (for Janonis)," said Hoffmann. "I am happy for her to get the honor once again. It is more important now, than at the beginning of the season, because it shows where she is at before the conference meet (Feb. 14-16 in Carbondale, Ill.). I am looking for it to further boost her confidence for the Valley Championship."
The Illinois State swimming and diving team has two weeks off before it competes at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Carbondale, Ill., Feb. 14-16.
