Final Stats

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Illinois State's MC Richmond recorded a season-high 16 kills and led the Redbirds with a .375 hitting percentage during a four-set (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 26-16) non-conference win over SIU-Edwardsville at the Vadalabene Center Saturday night.

Mallory Leggett notched 20 kills for the Redbirds and joined Richmond in double digits as the duo led Illinois State (11-10, 4-5 MVC) to the win in the first volleyball meeting ever with the Cougars (7-10).

Erin Lindsey had a match-high 49 set-assists, and Leggett's 16 digs led a five some in double figures. The Redbirds enjoyed statistical advantages in kills (64-48), set-assists (62-48) digs (69-60) and blocks (6-3).

"MC (Richmond) was great tonight. I thought she had some really good swings, and really had some heat behind the ball. You could tell her shoulder was feeling good out there. She didn't swing a whole lot in practice last week, and I think that helped with her effort tonight.

"Mallory (Leggett) also hit for a really good percentage. She and MC were a nice offensive balance from each antenna."

Illinois State opened the match with a close 25-21 set one win over the Cougars, in which Leggett tallied six kills and the Redbirds closed the set on a 6-2 run.

In the second set, the Redbirds trailed the Cougars 13-11, but went on a 14-4 run to close the match and won 25-17. Leggett, again, was a large part of Illinois State's success, notching six kills in the final 16 points of the frame.

SIU-Edwardsville got a strong effort from setter Mallory Clements in the third set and throughout the match. Clements finished the match with 30 set-assists and led the Cougars with 14 kills.
