Redbirds Wrap Up Fall Season at Sam H. Hall

Oct. 23, 2008

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The last stop for the Illinois State men's golf team in the fall season will be in the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate at Hattiesburg Country Club Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 27-28). The 6,902-yard, par-72 track will feature 15 teams and a 54-hole format, with 36-holes slated for Monday followed by 18-holes Tuesday.

The Redbirds are coming off a second-place finish after firing a season low 847 (277-281-291), at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University. The `Birds were led by junior Kyle Bragg, who carded a 7-under-par 204 (67-66-71), and claimed second-place.

Head coach Ray Kralis thinks this is a big tournament for his team, and hopes to build off it going into the winter break.

"Although no other Valley (Missouri Valley Conference) teams are participating, this is a big event for us to close out the fall season," said Kralis. "If we can put together a good tournament and play well, we can really carry a lot of momentum into the winter break."

The Illinois State lineup will consist of Tommy Bliefnick, Bragg, Will Cullen, Joe Emerich and Jeff Kellen.

The field will include Arkansas State, Austin Peay State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Longwood, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, New Orleans, Rhode Island, Southern Miss, St. John's, Texas-Pan American, Troy and Winthrop.

Play will begin Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 am with a shotgun start.
