Redbirds Prepare for Final Fall Campaign at Ross Resorts

Oct. 24, 2008

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head south to compete in its final fall campaign of the fall season at the 10-team Ross Resorts Invitational Monday and Tuesday in Southern Pines, N.C. The event is being hosted by Rollins College and will be held at the Pine Needles Golf Club. The 54-hole tournament will be a two-day event, with 36 holes to be played Monday, while the final round of 18 holes is slated for Tuesday.

Head coach Darby Sligh feels confident with the athletes' past fall performances, and hopes that those past performances will lead to a successful tournament.

"Stacey (Miller) is coming off a strong showing last week with her first-place finish (at the UNC-Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic), so I'm looking for her to step up again," said Sligh. "We also have Marisa (Milligan) back in the lineup, which will add an extra punch coming down the stretch. Any one of these five athletes could step up and help us bring home a win. I'm hoping to finish off the fall season with a strong showing."

Illinois State will send five golfers to the tournament. Senior Marci Hill and juniors, Laura Harris, Britt Knutson, Stacey Miller and Marisa Milligan will make up ISU's team.

Included in the tournament field will be teams from Augusta State, Bucknell, Illinois State, Memphis, Methodist College, North Carolina State, Nova Southeastern, Rollins College, Western Michigan and Yale.

The course is measured at 6,436 yards with par being 71. Monday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CST).
