Oct. 27, 2008

Final Stats

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Juniors Laura Harris and Stacey Miller led the Illinois State women's golf team to a two-round, third-place finish Monday at the Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C. Illinois State shot a 36-hole team total of 628 (318-310).

Miller is currently in third place after firing a 7-over-par 151 (76-75), while Harris carded a 10-over-par 154, which put her in a tie for fifth place. Harris shot a first-round total 9-over-par 81, but rallied in the second-round, firing a 1-over-par 73.

Head coach Darby Sligh is proud of Harris and Miller's successful two rounds.

"It is one of those things where we are so close to being in first place, that it is frustrating for the team because of how hard they are working and how close they are," said Sligh. "Laura had a tough first round (Monday) but she improved and really stepped up in her second round. If we didn't have her second round score of 73, we wouldn't be where we are now.

"Stacey is also playing really well. It is good to see that after her win in the last tournament."

Senior Marci Hill is currently tied for 22nd place with a two-round total of 161 (80-81), while junior Britt Knutson rounded out the top-25, finishing in a tie for 25th place with a 162 (81-81). Junior Marisa Milligan, who is making her first appearance of the fall season, carded a 36-hole total of 165 (83-82).

"We are going to go out on the course (Tuesday) and give it everything we have got and try to take the win," said Sligh. "It is our last tournament of the fall season, and we have nothing to lose. We are going to try to make up the 10 strokes we are behind and win the tournament."

The Redbirds are currently trailing Nova Southeastern, which is in first place after day one with a team-total score of 618 (311-307), while Yale finished the 36 holes in second place with a 620. Cassie Boles from Yale is currently in first place with a two-round total of 148 (75-73).

The final round will conclude Tuesday, with 18 holes slated for a shot gun start at 7:30 a.m. CST.
