SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Junior Stacey Miller received individual honors for the second-straight tournament in a row, while leading the Illinois State women's golf team to a three-round, second-place finish Tuesday at the Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C., in the team's final fall campaign. Illinois State shot a 54-hole team total of 937 (318-310-309), while concluding the tournament with its highest finish of the fall season. Miller won the tournament by firing a nine-over par 225 (76-75-74).

Head coach Darby Sligh is proud and excited with Miller's performance.

"I couldn't be happier for Stacey and the way she is representing Illinois State," said Sligh. "She stayed strong coming down the stretch through very tough playing conditions."

Junior Laura Harris also finished in the top-five, earning a fifth-place tie with a 54-hole total of 231 (81-73-77). Junior Britt Knutson improved from 25th place after day one to a day-two finish in the 24th spot. Knutson fired a three-round total of 242 (81-81-80), while Marisa Milligan rounded out the Redbirds in the top-25. Milligan carded a 243 (83-82-78). Senior Marci Hill finished the tournament in tie for 27th place with a three-round total score of 246 (80-81-85).

"Once again, we were so close but did not close the deal and win the tournament," said Sligh. "We are searching for consistency, and I believe it's just a matter of time before this team does something spectacular. I am proud of the way we made improvements each day of the tournament and we're looking forward to working hard this offseason."

Nova Southeastern finished the tournament in first place with a three-round total of 929 (311-307-311), while Rollins College, the host school, improved on day two to finish in third place with a 945 (317-313-315).

Illinois State will have a break in its season over the winter months but will return to action Feb. 15, 2009, at the Qdoba Collegiate in Miami.
