NORMAL, Ill. -
Sophomore Alex Rubin will have a later start to the basketball season than the rest of his Illinois State team after an X-ray revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal on his left foot, which is commonly known as the "Jones fracture." He will undergo surgery to repair the broken bone Wednesday.
Rubin suffered the injury in Monday's practice and joins Brandon Sampay and Bobby Hill on the list of Redbird injured players who are sidelined.
As a freshman, Rubin played in 20 games for the Redbirds and averaged 1.4 points per game. Of his nine made field goals last season, eight were from three-point range. He was expected to compete for time at the point guard position.
