Stacey Miller Named MVC Golfer of the Week

Oct. 29, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - After leading the Illinois State women's golf team to its highest finish of the fall campaign at the Ross Resorts Invitational and winning her second-straight tournament with individual honors, junior Stacey Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Miller took first place after the three-round tournament with a 9-over-par 225 (76-75-74).

The honor is the second this season for Miller and the fourth of her career. Earlier this season, Miller was named Valley Co-Golfer of the Week after she captured individual medalist honors and led the Redbirds to a ninth-place finish at the UNC-Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic.

On Monday, the Bloomington, Ill., native carded a two-round, 36-hole total of 151 (76-75), and finished the day in third place. However, Miller fought through poor weather conditions in the third round and carded a 2-over-par 74, while fighting back from third place after two rounds to take first place at the conclusion of the tournament.

Miller was joined by junior teammate Laura Harris as the top-five individualists of the tournament, while juniors Britt Knutson and Marisa Milligan rounded out the Redbirds that finished in the top-25. ISU fell to Nova Southeastern, which shot a team total of 929 (311-307-311). The Redbirds finished in second place with a team total of 937 (318-310-309).

The Redbirds will take a break from action over the winter months, but will kick off their spring season Feb. 15-17, 2009 at the Qdoba Collegiate in Miami.
