MUNCIE, Ind. - Freshman Skip Span and sophomore Filip Miljevic both took home a doubles title and second-place finishes in singles Sunday at Ball State's Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. The Redbirds finished the tournament with a 9-1 doubles record and a 15-8 singles record.

In the final round of Flight A doubles, Span and partner senior Daniel Tobar dominated Detroit's Dustin Goldenberg and Pjotrs Necajevs, 8-4, to bring home the doubles title. The Redbird pair of Miljevic and Timon Reichelt outperformed Griffin Neinberg and Patrick Rose of Purdue, 8-4, to win the Flight B title.

"The weekend was a success in both singles and doubles, especially for Filip and Skip," said head coach Cris James. "I was surprised with the team's performance in doubles competition. The new pairs revealed great chemistry we can build on. Timon, Skip and Filip are still learning a lot about doubles. It was a big accomplishment for the three of them, particularly Filip; it had never been his strength before."

Span and Miljevic fought tough, but fell in the final round of the singles competition.

Span came away with a second-place finish in Flight B after a loss to Paul Foley (Purdue), 5-7, 7-6(4), 1-0(5). Miljevic also took second in Flight A singles after falling to Pjotrs Necajevs (Detroit), 6-2, 6-1.

The tennis team will continue its fall season Friday, Oct. 10, at the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Ky. Competition will be held at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
