ISU to Conduct `Got 16?' Seminar in Decatur

Nov. 25, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - For a second time this year, the Illinois State Athletics Compliance Office will be conducting a "Got 16?" NCAA initial-eligibility seminar, in order to reach more high school student-athletes. The seminar will be held from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Decatur MacArthur High School in Decatur, Ill.

Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Cindy Harris and her staff are in their fifth year presenting this seminar at various locations around Central Illinois.

"We are happy to be presenting our "Got 16?" program in Decatur," said Harris. "We are certainly well aware that there are student-athletes in Decatur and in the surrounding area high schools who can benefit from the information we will be talking about on Dec. 3.

The seminar is geared toward high school student-athletes, coaches, parents, athletics directors and guidance counselors. Topics that will be covered in the presentation include NCAA core courses, test scores (ACT and SAT), registering for the NCAA Eligibility Center, official visits, strategies and perspectives and improving test scores.

"We want to emphasize that the seminar is open to any student-athlete, coach, parent, or guidance counselor from any high school," said Harris. "Administrators at Macarthur High School stepped up to request and arrange the program, but we hope everyone in the Decatur vicinity understands that it is open to anyone from any high school."

This event has been approved by the Illinois State Department Board of Education to award two Continuing Professional Development Unit (CPDU) credits for attendance at this event.

Additional information on the "Got 16?" seminar may be obtained by contacting the compliance office at 309/438-2677 or via e-mail at caharri@ilstu.edu.
