WICHITA, Kan. - Illinois State volleyball players Erin Lindsey and Peggy Riessen were named to the 2008 All-Missouri Valley Conference First-Team, announced by the league at the State Farm Missouri Valley Tournament banquet Thursday.
Lindsey, a senior setter from Eureka, Mo., notched her fourth-consecutive All-MVC selection, after earning second team honors in 2005 and 2007 and first team honors in 2006. She leads the Valley in all matches and conference matches with an 11.01 assists per set average. Lindsey has tallied 5,498 career assists, ranking her second in Illinois State history and third all-time in the MVC record books. She registered five matches with at least 50 assists and set at a .372 assist percentage.
Riessen, a junior outside hitter from Wilton, Iowa, earned her first selection on the all-conference first team, leading the Redbirds in kills and points. Her 3.71 kills per set in league matches are third-best in the Valley, while her 4.02 points per set are No. 4 in the conference. She also ranks No. 10 in the league with 4.02 digs per set, the second-highest total among non-liberos. Riessen registered six matches of more than 20 kills, which leads the league, and tallied 15 kill-dig double-doubles on the season, which ties for the second-highest total in the conference.
Wichita State outside hitter Emily Stockman earned the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year after leading the league in kills, service aces and points. Creighton junior middle blocker Jessica Houts earned the Valley's Defensive Player of the Year Award, while Wichita State's Kelly Broussard earned Libero of the Year. Shocker freshman setter Mary Elizabeth Hooper is the MVC Freshman of the Year and Wichita State head coach Chris Lamb earned MVC Coach of the Year honors after guiding the team to an undefeated season and No. 9 national ranking.
Lindsey and Riessen will lead the fifth-seeded Redbirds into action Thursday night against the fourth-seeded Missouri State Bears in the opening round of the State Farm MVC Tournament at Charles Koch Arena at 8 p.m.
