Richmond Receives State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award

Nov. 6, 2008

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State senior volleyball player M.C. Richmond was named a recipient of the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award this week. Richmond was one of 10 student-athletes from Valley schools to be honored during the fall sports season. The award is given three times annually to 10 student-athletes who are in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service and are participating in a sport during the season of recognition.

Richmond excels in the classroom with a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in physical education. She has been on the AFNI Honor Roll all eight semesters she has been at ISU and has been on the Dean's List six times. A two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honoree, Richmond is also very active in the Bloomington-Normal community, volunteering with the American Red Cross, Heritage Manor and the State Farm MVC Just Read! program. She has also served on mission trips in Arizona and Ecuador.

"The thing I value the most is giving someone the time of day and valuing a conversation with someone," Richmond said. "The biggest gift that you can give someone is your time, and I love to meet with people and talk to them. The reason I do these things is because of my faith and anything good that I do comes from that."

Richmond was joined on the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award list for the fall of 2008 by Brian Lock (Bradley), Jeff Thayer (Creighton), Theodore Scheisman (Drake), Kellee Widener (Evansville), Kelli Whitaker (Indiana State), David Arkin (Missouri State), Ben Schmidt (Northern Iowa), Larry Warner (Southern Illinois) and Katie Niggemeyer (Wichita State).
