Redbirds Receive Votes in Both Polls

Dec. 29, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - On the heels of its 72-69 overtime victory at Missouri State and its 12th-straight victory to open the season, the Illinois State men's basketball team received votes in both of the nation's most-noted top-25 polls.

The Redbirds, which received three votes in last week's ESPN/USA Today Poll, earned six votes in the Dec. 29 poll. The six votes in the "coaches poll" would equate to a No. 36 ranking as voted on by 31 head coaches at NCAA Division I institutions.

Illinois State, along with Missouri Valley Conference member Creighton, each received two votes apiece in the Dec. 29 Associated Press poll. As a result, both the Redbirds and Bluejays are tied for No. 41 nationally according to the poll members.

The Redbirds will have the opportunity to add two more victories to their season total this week and begin the season at 15-0, as Illinois State hosts both Evansville (Dec. 31) and Creighton (Jan. 3) on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
