ST. LOUIS -
Illinois State senior Kristi Cirone was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday. Cirone became the first Redbird to be honored with a weekly award this season and earned the seventh Valley award of her career, giving her the fifth-most in conference history.
Cirone was named the MVP of the Orange County Clash after averaging 22.5 points and 4.5 assists over the two games. She shot 69.6 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three-point range. She capped off her performance in the tournament with 21 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, five assists and four steals in the championship game win against UNC Greensboro, which had won five-straight games. She has guided the Redbirds to six-straight wins, the longest streak in the Valley this season.
Cirone's seven-career MVC Player of the Week awards are the fifth-most all-time, putting her behind Drake's Jill Martin (8), Indiana State's Melanie Boeglin (9), Drake's Wanda Ford (10), and Missouri State's Jackie Stiles (18).
