ST. LOUIS -
The accolades continue to come in for Kristi Cirone, who was selected as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week Tuesday, a day after being named the MVC Player of the Week. It is the eighth time in her career that Cirone has been honored for her athletic and academic achievements.
Cirone was named the MVP of the Orange County Clash after averaging 22.5 points and 4.5 assists over the two games. She shot 69.6 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three-point range. She capped off her performance in the tournament with 21 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, five assists and four steals in the championship game win against UNC Greensboro. Cirone carries a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science.
The Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week award is in its ninth year and seeks to acknowledge student-athletes in the Valley for their athletic and academic achievements. To qualify for the award, student-athletes must carry a GPA of at least 3.00, have completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to their academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performances for a one-week period.
Cirone was named the Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week earlier this season (Dec. 4) and her teammate, Nicolle Lewis, also earned an award this year (Dec. 17). Evansville men's basketball player Jason Hollsinger received the male award this week.
