Winter Weather Once Again Forces Redbird Softball Out of Action

March 10, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - For the second time in less than a week, the Illinois State softball team had a non-conference series postponed due to harsh winter weather that still encompasses much of the Midwest. This time, it was the Redbirds' home-opening doubleheader with Northern Illinois Tuesday that was called off, as wet field conditions at the Redbird Softball Complex, caused by recent freezing and thawing conditions in the Bloomington-Normal area, forced the postponement of the series.

The doubleheader against the Huskies has not been officially cancelled, and both schools are attempting to find a mutually-agreeable date to make up both games.

Illinois State was also hit by a case of bad-luck winter weather last weekend, as its three-game non-conference series with Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Ky., was cancelled due to a heavy snowfall that blanketed the Bowling Green, Ky., area with up to five inches of snow Saturday.

The Redbirds will attempt to play their first game in two weeks Saturday and Sunday, as they open up their 2008 Missouri Valley Conference schedule at home against defending Valley regular-season and tournament champion Creighton. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader from the Redbird Softball Complex is slated for noon.
