Paced by two top-15 individual finishes from sophomores Marisa Milligan and Laura Harris, the Illinois State women's golf team finished fourth at the Gainesville Shootout III, hosted by Florida at the par-70, 5,907 yard Mark Bostic Golf Course. The Redbirds were able to maintain their day-two standing with a three-round-team-total of 924 (308, 309, 307).
Milligan, a Normal, Ill. native finished in the top-10 for the second straight event after wrapping up spring break in a sixth-place tie while firing a three-round-total of 225 (75, 73, 77). Harris was Illinois State's low player for the final round, as she posted a 72 on her way to a total of 226 (71, 83, 72), and an 11th-place tie. Junior Tiffany Hockensmith also finished in the top-25 as she tied for 21st after recording a three-round-total of 232 (79, 76, 77).
Illinois won the 15-team, 54-hole event after tallying a three-round-team-total of 916 (309, 306, 301). The Fighting Illini finished two strokes ahead of second place Texas State who shot a three-round-team-total of 918 (301, 313, 304). Individual-medalist honors were claimed by Alex Rankin of Wofford after she posted a three-round-total of 217 (72, 68, 77)
The Redbirds will have some time off as they do not compete again until Sunday-Monday, March 30-31 at the Saluki Invitational, hosted by Missouri Valley Conference and in-state rival Southern Illinois. The event will take place at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Carbondale, Ill. Tee times have yet to be announced.
