TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
As senior Véronique Parke-Bédard won her fifth-consecutive singles match, the Illinois State women's tennis team fell to Indiana State, 5-2, Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., at the Wabash Valley Tennis Center. Due to the loss the Redbirds are now 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Sycamores are 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the MVC.
Despite the loss, head coach Chris Hoover is happy with his team's performance.
"It really was a tough match," said Hoover. "However, I think that it was one of our better performances, so I am really not that disappointed by the loss. The team played very hard."
The `Birds were able to capture two of the singles points from the Sycamores. Parke-Bedard beat Joanne Schickerling, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7, at the No. 3 spot while freshman Katie O'Riley defeated Marie Caujolle, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, in the No. 6 position.
"Katie played really well today and it was needed for our team," said Hoover. "We have been struggling at the No. 6 spot, so we need to keep this momentum."

Sophomore Julia Zubkova was defeated by Sarah Meghoufel, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot, while senior Carolyne Parent lost to Valeriia Petrovych, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in flight No. 4. Junior Tanja Hrovatic's four-match winning streak came to an end as she was beat by Fadzai Masiyazi, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot.
