Men's Golf Heads to Alabama for Samford Intercollegiate

March 8, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Argonaut Invitational, and the Redbirds are looking to continue their strong play as they get set to compete in the Samford Intercollegiate Monday-Tuesday, March 10-11 at the Limestone Spings Golf Club in Limestone, Ala.

Head coach Ray Kralis is looking for his team to get on a roll as they approach the thick of their spring season.

"I liked the team effort we put forth our last time out and I believe we are capable of that type of effort every time we tee it up," said Kralis. "We are looking to build some momentum off of the way we played in Pensacola (Fla.), and we are looking to gain momentum as the spring season picks up."

The Redbirds will be led by junior Ben Murphy and redshirt sophomore Joe Emerich. Murphy is coming off a ninth place tie at the Argonaut Invitational, while Emerich leads the ISU team with a 74.2 season-scoring average.

The Limestone Springs Golf Club plays host to the 2008 Samford Intercollegiate, and is one of the premier golf courses in Alabama.

The 56-hole event gets underway with the first 36-holes beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Monday, and the final 18-holes beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
