The Illinois State women's tennis team faced Illinois-Chicago, on Saturday, March 8 in Oak Lawn, Ill. The Redbirds lost to Illinois-Chicago 4-3, despite freshman
Katie O'Riley's performance in singles and doubles. The Redbirds currently hold a 3-5 record.
In singles play, senior Katri Miller took home a win against Ilinca Cristescu, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Julia Zubkova, lost to Lubica Nadasska, 6-3, 6-3, in flight No. 2. Senior Veronique Parke-Bedard played at the No. 3 spot and lost to Kristen McPhillips, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Carolyne Parent was defeated by Grace Gill-Morlis, 6-3, 7-6 (3), in flight No. 4.
"It wasn't our best efforts, but it proved to us that we need to take advantage of the doubles point," said Hoover. "Carolyne continues to play well and I'm sure she will be prepared for conference.
In the rest of singles play, junior Tanja Hrovatic, gained a point for the Redbirds by defeating Amy Jellish, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 5 spot. Katie O'Riley also earned a point after beating Jenna Reisch, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 6 flight.
In doubles, O'Riley and Zubkova, took home the only win against Ulrikke Von Ubisch and Gill-Morlis, 8-5, at the No. 2 spot. Miller and Parke-Bedard fell to Nadasska and McPhillips, 8-3, in the No. 1 flight, while Hrovatic and Parent lost to Cristescu and Reish, 8-4, in flight No. 3.
The Redbirds will compete against No. 51 DePaul Saturday, March 9 in Chicago, Ill., at the Lakeshore Athletics Club. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
