Illinois State men's tennis player senior Luka Marinkovic was selected as the Missouri Valley Player of the Week for the week of April 1. It is the first time that an Illinois State men's tennis player has won the award this season. It is the third such honor for Marinkovic who was also selected as the MVC Player of the Week as a sophomore (April 11, 2006) and a junior (April 18, 2007) as well.
Marinkovic captured four matches last weekend for Illinois State, including his 70th career singles victory in a Saturday win over SLU's
P.J. Hendrie On Sunday, Marinkovic topped Bradley's Evgeny Samoylov at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, Marinkovic won both of his matches at the No. 1 spot, beating SLU's Felipe Acosta and Paul Feder 8-5, on Saturday; and taking down Bradley's Evgeny Samoylov and Milos Romic, 8-3, on Sunday.
The Redbirds play host to Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake on Saturday, April 5, and BIG EAST member DePaul Sunday, April 6. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m. Illinois State will be aiming to spoil Drake's perfect season, as the Bulldogs come to town with a 17-0 record on the season.
