After finishing the regular season with a 12-9 overall mark and 6-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference, the Illinois State women's tennis team is now headed for the 2007 State Farm MVC Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held April 25-27, at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb. The Redbirds are seeded third and will face No. 6 Drake at 12:30 p.m., as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The `Birds are No. 3 behind the only two conference teams they lost to during the season, Wichita State which is seeded No. 2 and Indiana State which is seeded No. 1. No. 75 Indiana State went 8-0 in the regular season, while No. 72 Wichita State went 7-1. Wichita State returns to the competition after winning the last two MVC Championship titles.
The last time the Redbirds faced Drake was April 5, in Des Moines, Iowa. After securing the doubles point and only falling in one singles match, the `Birds topped the Bulldogs 6-1.
Illinois State is followed by No. 4 Northern Iowa, No. 5 Southern Illinois, No. 7 Evansville, No. 8 Bradley and No. 9 Creighton.
