Reichelt Signs with Redbird Tennis

June 16, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State men's tennis coach Cris James announced the new addition of Timon Reichelt Monday to the 2008-09 Redbird roster.

The Wedemark, Germany native will join the Redbirds as a transfer, with three years of eligibility remaining, after gaining one year of collegiate level experience at McKendree playing at the No.1 singles and No. 2 doubles positions. Reichelt is a 2007 graduate of the Bruguera Tennis Academy in Barcelona, Spain.

Drawn by Reichelt's accomplishments from the 2007-08 season, James is confident that Reichelt will adjust well to Illinois State and be a contributing member of the team. Reichelt won the singles title as the No. 2 seed at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships and advanced to Mobile, Ala., for the ITA National Small College Championships. Reichelt finished eighth in the men's single draw.

"The thing that stands out about Timon is his high level of commitment and enthusiasm to become the best player he can be," said James. "I can see Timon establishing himself as a team leader in the years to come."

As James enters his second season at Illinois State, he is looking forward to coaching Reichelt and witnessing his affect on the program.

"Timon has a strong work ethic and training structure," said James. "He is an asset to the future of the tennis program."
