NORMAL, Ill. -
Todd Kober, Illinois State Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations, announced Wednesday the hiring of Kevin McCarty as a graduate assistant in the Redbird Athletics Media Relations Office. McCarty's duties begin immediately, where he will serve as the primary media contact for the Illinois State baseball team, while also serving as the co-editor-in-chief of the football and men's basketball game-day programs.
McCarty comes to Illinois State from Kansas State, where he graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in mass communications and journalism, following three years as a student assistant in the Wildcats' sports information office. The Hutchinson, Kan., native served as the primary media contact for the K-State men's golf team in 2007-08 and covered women's tennis in 2006-07. His 2006 women's tennis media guide received regional honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
McCarty also gained athletics media relations experience as a student assistant in both the Oklahoma State Sports Information Office (2003-04) and in the Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College Sports Information Office, which he helped create in August 2004.
"I'm really excited about adding Kevin to the staff," said Kober. "He brings a strong background from Kansas State, and his credentials were superior to the other candidates. I'm elated that he and his wife, Brooksie, have joined the Illinois State family, and I'm sure he will continue the legacy that our current and former graduate assistants have built."
