WINNIPEG, Canada - -
Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn returned under center for Winnipeg Friday night, but the Blue Bombers dropped their Canadian Football League opener to Toronto, 23-16, at Canad Inns Stadium.
The game was Glenn's first regular-season contest since breaking his left arm in the 2007 East Division Championship. Glenn and the Bombers held a 6-1 lead in the second quarter with a pair of field goals, but the Argonauts scored a touchdown right before halftime to take an 8-6 lead.
Toronto extended its lead to 15-9, heading into the fourth quarter. Following a defensive pass interference call in the end zone, Winnipeg's Charles Roberts scored a 1-yard touchdown as the Blue Bombers regained the lead 16-15, with 13:50 left in the game.
Winnipeg was held scoreless the rest of the way, while Toronto added a safety to retake the lead and two field goals to extend it for the final margin.
Glenn completed 32-of-48 passes for 321 yards, but he threw three fourth-quarter interceptions without a touchdown pass. Derick Armstrong was Glenn's favorite target, finishing with seven catches for 116 yards.
The Blue Bombers will have an opportunity to even their record July 4, when they travel to Montreal for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
