Frederick Named Director of Volleyball Operations

July 1, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head volleyball coach Melissa Myers welcomed the final piece to her staff Tuesday with the hiring of Margot Frederick (MAR-go) as the program's Director of Volleyball Operations. Frederick's volleyball coaching resume includes stints at the junior high, high school and club levels. She will be pursuing her master's degree at Illinois State in the sport management concentration.

"We're looking forward to having Margot join the Illinois State volleyball staff," said Myers. "Margot brings enthusiasm, a strong work ethic and has demonstrated a great desire to be involved with ISU volleyball while working on her master's degree."

The Liberty Center, Ohio native comes to Illinois State after spending the last year as the head coach at the Performance Point Volleyball Club in Lafayette, Ind. In the 2007 season, she also served as the varsity assistant coach, and junior varsity head coach, at West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School in West Lafayette, Ind.

At West Lafayette, Frederick helped mentor four All-Hoosier Conference selections, and both the varsity and JV teams qualified for the conference championships. Frederick's JV squad finished the season with a 17-6 record.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this new Illinois State volleyball staff," Frederick said. "On my visits to campus I was impressed with the direction of the administrators and the general cohesion of the athletics department. Coach Myers has made it clear that as a staff, we will always be learning and improving our methods in order for our program to compete at the highest level. As a young coaching mentee, I couldn't ask for a better situation."

Frederick's collegiate playing days included three years at Cleveland State (2004-06), and one season at Owens Community College [Ohio] (2003). The defensive specialist was a key contributor for the Vikings in both her junior and senior campaigns, when CSU compiled overall records of 19-10 and 19-9, respectively, and earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) regional rankings.

At Owens CC, Frederick played setter, and led the Express to a 40-9 record and a fifth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championships, along with Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and regional titles. Frederick compiled 297 assists to go along with 128 digs on the season, and earned a spot on the all-conference all-academic team.

Frederick claimed all-state honors, and was tabbed league player of the year, in her senior season at Genoa High School. The three-time all-league and all-district selection is the school record holder with 1,510 career set-assists. Genoa went 57-15 in her three seasons with the program.

The 23-year old (1-20-85) Frederick graduated with her bachelor's of science degree in psychology from Cleveland State in 2007.
