Nicholson NPF Blog #7: Getting Ready for a 'Business' Trip to Boston

July 14, 2008

AKRON, Ohio - Welcome back to this week's blog from the land of the Akron Racers in Akron, Ohio. We just finished playing four games against the New England Riptide, and Tuesday, will be flying out to Boston to play another four games against the `Tide. I can't wait for the trip. First off, we have some business to take care of with the Riptide, as they beat us in three of the four games we played against them last week. Second, I have always wanted to go to Boston, and I'm pretty pumped for the road trip.

We just hit the midseason mark, and are exactly half way through the season. It's pretty good timing, as a couple girls on the team get to represent the Racers at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium in New York City this week. Also, my teammate Angela Tincher is up for an ESPY as the female college athlete of the year, and is spending her off days in Los Angeles for the filming of the ESPYs. I told her I would be her guest in LA if she needed one, but she took her boyfriend instead. Maybe next year...

I can't believe how fast the season has been flying by, but we've been pretty spoiled by having only one road series this whole time. The second half is a little different for us, and we only have two home series left. Needless to say, we'll be living out of suitcases for a while.

This past week wasn't the best for us Racers. Just when we were playing pretty well and moving up in the standings, we dropped back down a spot, as we lost three-straight games. Saturday night, as we were trying to even the series up against New England, we got postponed by some weather. Since the game was being televised on Fox Sports Net, we really wanted to get the game in. After sitting around the locker room for hours, the tarp was pulled, and we finally got to play around 9 p.m. It was one of the darkest games I've played in, but things were looking bright until a seventh-inning three-run home run by the `Tide put us down by one run. Just as in the two previous games, we lost in the seventh inning. The whole series has left a bitter taste in our mouths, and we are definitely ready for this business trip to Boston.

Hopefully, we'll start the second half of the season on the right foot Wednesday night, when we start up again, and I'll have some good news to report next week. Until then, Go You Redbirds (and Racers)!
