Illinois State women's golfer Stacey Miller has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The junior won the sectional qualifier by shooting a final-round score of 73. Miller won by one stroke. The event was held at the Broadmoor Country Club.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is the third oldest United States Golf Association (USGA) Championship. The event is open to any amateur female who has a USGA Handicap index below 5.4. The field is made up of 18 different qualifiers from across the country and the rest of the field is made up of past exemptions.
Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh is pleased with Miller's accomplishments.
"Stacey has reached the pinnacle of women's amateur golf by qualifying for this prestigious event," said Sligh. "She will join the best amateur golfers in the country in August, and I could not be more proud of her. She has worked extremely hard this summer, and I am very excited that she is finally seeing her hard work pay off."
Miller will compete in the week-long U.S. Women's Amateur Championship from Aug. 4-10. The championship will be held at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
