As part of the redesigned GoRedbirds.com, the Illinois State Athletics Media Relations Office will spend the next five business days helping you, the Redbird Athletics fan, acquaint yourself with your official source of Illinois State Athletics news. In Wednesday's installment of Inside the New GoRedbirds.com, we will highlight some the usefulness of one of the more unique features of the new GoRedbirds.com, the RSS feeds.
WHAT IS AN RSS FEED?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML format for distributing and aggregating Web content. Using RSS, Web content providers like GoRedbirds.com can create and disseminate feeds that include news links, headlines, summaries, and links back to GoRedbirds.com for the full story. Essentially, the RSS feed on GoRedbirds.com allows you, the ISU Athletics fan, to receive links and a brief synopsis of news stories on GoRedbirds.com that will be sent to one of several external Web browsers, such as Google or Yahoo.
USING AN RSS FEED
There are two typical methods for using RSS:
Using a program known as a news aggregator or reader to collect, update, and display RSS feeds
Incorporating RSS feeds into Web logs
There are many free or commercial news aggregator or reader programs available for download. Other services are Web-based and allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds and display the content inside your browser.
