Weibring Tied for Sixth after Round Two of U.S. Senior Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former Illinois State men's golfer D.A. Weibring shot a second-round two-under par 69, moving into a tie for sixth-place after the second round of the 59th U.S. Senior Open at Broadmoor East Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colo., Friday. ISU alums Gary Ostrega and Jerry Vidovic finished day two in a tie for 54th and 104th place, respectively. Ostrega's seven over par 77 made the projected cut heading into this weekend's final two rounds.

Weibring carded birdies in three of the first five holes, and finished the front nine with a three-under par 33. He had five pars on the back nine, and completed the back side two-over par (36). Weibring drove at an average of 295.5, and was two-under par on Broadmoor East's par-five holes.

Ostrega made the turn in a six-over par 42, but fought back with a one-over par 35 on the back nine to stay alive for the weekend's final two rounds. Ostrega carded a total of eight pars in the second round, including one of his two birdies on the par-four 18th hole. He finished the second round with a seven-over par 77.

Vidovic shot a six-over par 41 on the front nine, but fought back with a five-over par 39 on the back side. His lone birdie came on the par-four 14th hole. Vidovic drove at an average of 301.5 in the second round. He completed the second round with a 10-over par score of 80.

Fred Funk (-6) is the second-round leader, recording a two-under par 69. He leads Eduardo Romero by two strokes. Three players, including Americans Tom Kite and John Cook, are tied for third at two-under par. The projected cut is at eight-over par, where nine players sit.
