NORMAL, Ill. -
There is still an opportunity to join Illinois State alumni, coaches, staff, Redbird Club members and friends for a round of golf in the Chicago area, with spots still remaining for the 2008 Windy City Golf Classic. The tournament, which is sponsored by the Redbird Club, will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at the Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor, Ill.
The "Classic" kicks off at 11:00 a.m. with registration, and all players will be supplied with a lunch. Play will start at 12:30 p.m., with a shotgun start in a four-person scramble format. Following the day's action, all participants will be treated to a dinner and a silent auction, where they will have the opportunity to meet ISU coaches and administrators.
Cost to play is $200 per player, or $750 per team, which includes golf, cart fees, range balls, lunch, dinner, and a tee gift. The tournament is limited to the first 92 entrants. Prizes will also be given out to the teams that place in the tournament. Skill competitions will also be held, including closest to the pin, long drive, short drive, long putt and a hole-in-one contest. Other sponsorships are also available for the event.
Proceeds from the event will benefit student-athletes attending Illinois State. Fund raising plays an important role in maintaining the university's broad-based athletics program. Revenue generated through fund-raising events like the Windy City Golf Classic primarily covers the cost of scholarships and grants-in-aid for student-athletes, including tuition and fees; books; and housing.
