Glenn Returns to Lead Blue Bombers in Win

WINNIPEG, Canada - Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn returned as the starter for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and led his team to its second victory of the season with a 37-24 win over Hamilton Thursday night in Canadian Football League (CFL) action at Canad Inns Stadium.

Glenn finished the game completing 24-of-37 passes for 285 yards and a touchdown. He did throw a pair of interceptions, including his third pass attempt of the game which was returned 19 yards for a Hamilton touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

However, Glenn responded by leading the Blue Bombers on a 10-play, 72-yard touchdown scoring drive to tie the game, 7-7. Charles Roberts ended the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Winnipeg took its first lead of the game at the 13:27 mark in the second quarter, following an 84-yard fumble return by Joe Lobendahn to the Hamilton 1-yard line. Roberts again crossed the plane with a 1-yard touchdown run for the 14-7 lead.

Winnipeg added to its lead, 17-7, with a 24-yard field goal at the 9:20 mark in the second quarter. Hamilton got to within three points, 17-14, with 28 seconds left in the first half with a touchdown, but Winnipeg added a single on the final play of the half for the 18-14 score at the intermission.

Glenn tossed his first touchdown pass of the game with a 5-yard pass to Derick Armstrong at the 10:30 mark in the third quarter. The pass ended a 9-play, 75-yard scoring drive that gave Winnipeg a 25-14 lead. Hamilton continued to stay close with another touchdown, to close the deficit, 25-21.

At the 13:30 mark in the fourth quarter, Winnipeg tacked on an 11-yard field goal to increase its lead, 28-21, but Hamilton matched the three points on the ensuing drive to bump the score to 28-24. Two more Winnipeg singles and a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown secured the 37-24 victory.

Heading into the bye week, Winnipeg owns a 2-6 overall record and returns to action Aug. 31 at Saskatchewan.
