NORMAL, Ill. -
One day before its annual fall scrimmage, and just three days before the start of classes, the Illinois State football team added another member to its 2008 roster Friday with the signing of linebacker Travis Wolff.
Wolff comes to Illinois State following a one-year stint at Milford Academy, a prep school in New Berlin, N.Y. The Pittsburgh native starred at Milford Academy, where he was a three-time defensive player of the week, while leading the Falcons to a prep school national championship.
A graduate of Pittsburgh's Shaler Area High School, Wolff was a two-time first-team all-conference selection, while he also earned second-team all-state accolades as a senior. Wolff concluded his stellar senior season with a Fab-22 North selection, and was also selected to play in the annual Big 33 All-Star Game, which is comprised of select high school players from Pennsylvania and Ohio.
"Travis is a young man that we discovered late, and we were fortunate to get him signed before classes start Monday," said Illinois State head coach Denver Johnson. "Travis is a quality player, who came out here (to the Illinois State campus) on short notice. We're very excited about him, as he had quite a high school career and was also a team captain at Milford Academy. He comes to us very highly recommended from both his high school and prep school coaches."
