NORMAL, Ill. -
Sophomore safety Casey Kociuba's 2008 season came to an unexpected close Wednesday when X-rays revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal on his right foot, which is commonly known as the "Jones fracture."
The Liberty Hill, Texas, native suffered the injury during the 23rd period of Tuesday's practice. He will undergo surgery Friday.
Kociuba played in the season-opener at Marshall, as a reserve, but did not record a tackle. He played in nine games during the 2007 season and finished with 25 tackles, including 14 solo stops.
